Did you know that Bassetts created a special flavor, with help from WHYY's fans, several years ago to celebrate the WHYY production "The Philly Food Show" which featured Bassetts Ice Cream and other iconic Philadelphia foods? The WHYY Experience is vanilla ice cream swirled with butterscotch sauce and blended with chocolate covered pretzel pieces.

Philadelphia Bar Association commissions Bassetts Ice Cream Painting
The Philadelphia Bar Association Workers Compensation Arts Committee has commissioned eight paintings to celebrate the centennial anniversary of the enactment of the Pennsylvania Workers' Compensation Act. Bassetts Ice Cream was selected by the committee, including The Honorable Scott Olin, as the subject for the fifth painting in the series. The paintings will hang in the public corridor outside the courtrooms located on the 4th Floor at 8th and Arch Streets in Philadelphia. The Bassetts painting was painted by Shaina Anderson, a University of the Arts graduate, and sponsored by the law firm of Steiner, Segal, Muller and Donan. The theme of the painting is based in part on a home movie that was made in the 1930s by Lewis L. Bassett, Jr. (3rd generation) about the ice cream production process in the Reading Terminal Market. The painting was unveiled on April 25 at the Philadelphia Bar Association's Martha Hampton Award Luncheon at the Rittenhouse Hotel.
In the Movies...
Lexington Candy Shop in New York City, a longtime Bassetts Ice Cream customer, (who was also chosen as a place to get one of America's 17 Best Milkshakes by TheDailyMeal.com, using Bassetts Ice Cream!) was a location shoot for a scene in the new Woody Allen movie "Fading Gigolo." Check out the Bassetts Ice Cream flavorboard in the background--it appears from 1:23 to 1:30 of the trailer.

Bassetts Ice Cream's Chocolate Overload Milkshake has been named one of the 14 Best Milkshakes Around Philly by Zagat.
Also included on the list is the Butterscotch Bourbon Pie Shake at Magpie Artisan Pies, a Bassetts customer, located at 1622 South Street, Philadelphia. The combination of their delicious pies with Bassetts ultra creamy vanilla ice cream is out of this world! Definitely worth the trip.
It's very gratifying to have our ice cream get kudos from our own store, but extra nice to see our customers get them too.

Bassetts Ice Cream is in China!
In May 2008, the first order of Bassetts Ice Cream was sent by container ship to Beijing, China. In July 2008, the first overseas ice cream shop serving Bassetts Ice Cream was opened in Yantai, a coastal city southeast of Beijing, by Mr. Sun Gongyun (James Sun). Two additional store locations were opened in Taiyuan and another just celebrated a grand opening in Fuzhou. Mr. Sun established the Beijing Sino-American Food Company in order to introduce Bassetts "World Famous" Ice Cream to this rapidly developing market. In addition to his ice cream shops, Mr. Sun is distributing Bassetts Ice Cream to restaurants, hotels and grocery stores. Today, China is the second largest market for Bassetts Ice Cream Company, outside the Philadelphia area. Recently, Bassetts President Michael Strange and Reading Terminal Market store operator Roger Bassett traveled to China to meet with Mr. Sun and visit the stores and see future sites for Bassetts Ice Cream locations in China. Bassetts Ice Cream marks 150th Year Anniversary in 2011!
Bassetts Ice Cream celebrated it's 150th Anniversary at the 5th Annual Ultimate Philadelphia Ice Cream Festival on July 16th, 2011. Highlights of the day included ice cream eating contests, tastings, games, live music and a cake cutting by the Bassett family.

President Obama stopped by Bassetts Ice Cream!
When the President was in Philadelphia on Monday, September 20th, 2010, he stopped into the Reading Terminal Market and purchased cheesesteaks, apples and Bassetts Ice Cream! He shook hands with Michael Strange, the president of Bassetts Ice Cream, and Roger Bassett served him mint chocolate chip ice cream.
